Busy as a Bubbe - A BESTeam Feature

It's my pleasure to feature the shop of one of my BESTeam teammates with you today! While I had featured Agnes, and her shop - BeaderBubbe - before, I thought it might be fun to ask this sweet lady to answer a few questions about herself and her business, and she graciously agreed to participate. Let's learn a little more about this lovely, bead crazy, crafty, grandmother from Brooklyn!

Name one thing that not many people know about you.   It is probably that if I didn’t become a secretary, mom, and wife….I would have liked to pursue a career as a writer….I love to read and writing a novel, especially a mystery would be on my list of something I would have like to do had I not gone in a different direction with my life…I have no regrets…but it is back there in my mind.

What one aspect of your business do you wish you knew more about?  I think I wish I knew more about selling….selling myself….I feel intimidated to go up to people and say “Hey I sell jewelry.” I have business cards but find it difficult to be forward enough to just give them out. I try to wear some of my jewelry so if someone does ask about the piece, I take it from there, telling them I sell….I have gone as far as carrying and reading a beading magazine, hoping someone would ask me about it….I guess I am not the forward type…

Most people have something or someone they look to for inspiration - what or who is yours? I subscribe to a lot of bead magazines and usually go with the colors and styles that I like. I often take friends to bead shows and feed off their ideas. I am also always on the internet looking for ideas…I often see pieces on other people and say “I can do that!”

How did you decide on your shop name?  That’s easy….I love to bead “Beader” and I am a “Bubbe” which is the Yiddish word for grandma….of which I am to 6 beautiful boys and one more on the way…

Your grandchild just presented you with a picture of yourself that they had drawn. What would stand out in the picture?  That’s cute….I actually have those….and they make me look skinny….which I am not; gotta love those grandchildren! (I completely agree, although I'm trying to figure out why my granddaughter always draws me with 3, count them, 3 fingers on each hand!)

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?  To be able to fly…..there is not enough time in the day to complete everything I do….if I can get around faster (especially the older I get)…..think that would do it.

Is there anything you'd like everyone to know about your shop? (Sales, promotions, upcoming events, etc?)  I am working on some new pieces for one, and also going to thin out my stash of beads so I will be putting in a supply section…..and I give FREE SHIPPING to first time buyers, always…..

Agnes' shop is full of an eclectic collection of styles and colors, and I really enjoyed the mission of picking out a couple of favorites to share with you here!

Need a little protection against the evil eye? Folklore from around the world speaks of beads that are able to absorb those jealous thoughts or ill will from enemies, and prevent the "evil eye" from attaching its curse to some unwitting subject. It's really no wonder that these magical beads have been a part of culture for century, and nowadays, even if you don't believe in the evil eye, you can still wear evil eye jewelry as a colorful and fun addition to your look!  Agnes offers a couple different colors of beaded bracelets and I think they'd look great alone or in bunches with your casual clothes or even as a touch of color (and protection?) during those high-power business meetings!

Earthy rectangular stones in a flurry of green hues make my second selection a perfect choice for autumn. I think these beads reflect the feel of autumnal cycle perfectly and this bracelet would look exceptional with a black suit or charcoal grey attire. Of course, they'd look great with those jeans and a hunter green sweater for that shopping trip or Halloween hayride too!
