September Morn...

I swear it was just August 1st about a week ago. I think someone has life's timekeeper in fast-forward mode! This month got off to a bit of a rough start when I got up this morning and received a phone call from my 6 month pregnant daughter asking whether she should go to the ER or wait until her OB's office opened in a short while since she was covered in hives from head to toe and her throat was beginning to swell too. Needless to say, I spent the day babysitting my grandgirls while mommy was sleeping off the Benadryl and other meds they gave her to help with whatever it was she was reacting to. (We're thinking it might have been a spider bite!) Hopefully the rest of the month will be much more "normal"! In keeping with my custom of ushering in the months by sharing a bit of trivia about the new month with you, here are my facts and folklore about this month named in honor of its position as the seventh month of the ancient Roman calendar! September is one of the four months of the Gregorian calendar that has exactly 30 days. Coincidentally, September begins on the same day of the week as December every year.

The deep blue Sapphire is both the modern and traditional birthstone for the month of September. Ancient civilizations believed that the world was set upon an enormous sapphire, which painted the sky blue with its reflection. They also believed that Sapphires were protective against envy, and even against poisoning. The Sapphire is second only to the Diamond in hardness, making it a durable gemstone for setting into jewelry. A gift of Sapphire represents sincerity and faithfulness. The aster and morning glory share the honor of being September's birth flowers !

What a beautiful concept, it really puts those clear blue skies in a new perspective!

That is a neat concept. Thanks for featuring my heart-shaped plate here on here on your great web page. I had to look up the various angels and their symbolic meanings when I was painting the plates, and came across one site that said Uriel was an angel of enlightenment and spiritual thinking. It's kind of hard to depict that in an image, but I think it turned out pretty good.
