Delightful Discoveries - Sacred to Saturn 09.01.10

The word sapphire is believed to have its origins in the Sankskrit word sanipriya which means "sacred to Saturn". Saturn, in turn, being the Roman god, for which the planet was named, was the god of harmony and knowledge, and these qualities are associated with both the gemstone and the color.

When most people think of sapphire, they think of the magnificent blue gemstone that is the birthstone of the month of September. It's interesting to note that originally, the term sapphire is believed to have referred to a different blue stone - lapis lazuli! You might be interested to know that in addition to this rich deep blue, sapphire gemstones, a form of corundum, can come in virtually all the colors of the rainbow except red. Red corundum is commonly known as ruby. Today, I'm sharing some gorgeous sapphire blue items - all of which are in the deep sapphire blue that is found in only the most exquisite of blue sapphires. Enjoy!

Naturally, there are some amazing jewelry pieces found in this stunning blue color -

Just click here to e-mail me the link to the page of the shop where I can see your nominees.

Scheduling and posting of my articles for this week has become a bit erratic due to a family emergency with my daughter that blew away my schedule last night and today, as well as trying to sort out some team issues for team posts, so bear with me. Everything will be as close to on schedule as I can keep it! (Emergencies withstanding!) I hope your week is going smoother than mine :)
