Wishful Wednesday - Right on Time! NOT!

I am still nursing an injured foot (and trying to avoid an air cast at this point), and my youngest stepson is in town visiting, so time has gotten away from me a bit this week. That situation gave me the perfect theme for today's (really yesterday's) Wishful Wednesday post - Time!

I went on a search for some wunnerful handmade and vintage items with a time-ly theme and I hope you'll take the time to enjoy them!

I've had many people ask me how I manage my daily schedule to stay on top of everything I attempt to accomplish each day. This amazing clock from walldecoration on Etsy pretty well sums it up! An hour for twitter, an hour for Yahoo, an hour for e-mails... well, you get the picture. If anyone in my family sees this, my birthday's not all that far away, and this is one gift that would make me chuckle everytime I looked at it, realizing how much I really do run my life by what I need to do online - and it's functional to boot!  Definitely at the top of my wishlist right now :)

"As sands through the hourglass, so go the days of our lives..." I'm guessing many of you are familiar with the famous opening line to the world's second longest currently televised soap opera. With over 11,000 episodes telecast since it debuted in 1964, I can only imagine (since I'm not a soap fan) the changes this show has seen in the nearly 50 years it's been on TV! Another interesting little factoid - did you know that the average hourglass contains approximately 5 million grains of sand? I've always loved old timepieces that show the ingenuity of man over the ages to measure the passing of time, so this lovely vintage brass hourglass from 2BirdsOneStone was a shoe-in for this showcase!

What would a feature of time-related items be without a representation from the realm of steampunk? Steampunk blends the old with the new, creating somewhat anachronistic themes through the use of vintage and modern components for a whimsical view of jumbled time. I ran across this beautiful necklace called The Time Writer Sea Dragon from Thecatslave and fell in love with it right away.

Another timekeeping tool that has survived thousands of years is the sundial. Designed to help one tell the time of day (during daylight  hours of course!), and often even the month of the year, the science behind building a better sundial isn't quite as simple as you might think!  Of course, big bulky sundials aren't exactly user friendly, so along the way, a small handheld version was developed that included not only a gnomon (the central stick/angle that casts its shadow), but a compass as well as often a sextant, to help you get more accurate readings.  Dustylorraine currently offers this sweet handheld sundial that, in addition to being beautiful, can be a great tool for your scout, science buff, or history buff to learn just one of the ways mankind measured time.

They say time flies when you're having fun, and this darling note card set from tiddlyinks illustrates that in a whimsical, happy way. Perfect for those way-too-long-in-coming handwritten notes to old friends, these cards will give them some idea of just what you're up against in chasing down some time!

My last item is not only timely, it's a wise bit of advice that we all need to remember. This Best of Times print comes from Etsy newcomer AmyMartinStudios... and its message is what I will leave you with today... make it a good one!
