One of my favorite movies of all times is The Sound of Music starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. The first time I ever saw it was at the show shortly after it was released in 1965 - which means I would have been about 7 years old. For anyone who's not familiar with the story - based loosely on the true story of the Von Trapp family - it is about a young woman trying to find her true life's path. The heroine of the story, Maria (played by Julie Andrews) has joined an Abbey but the Mother Superior is not quite sure she is suited to the lifestyle. Sent to be a governess (nanny) to the family of a widowed captain in the Austrian navy, she falls in love with the Captain (played by Christopher Plummer) and as the story unfolds over many twists and turns, they eventually marry and then escape Austria (which has been taken over by Hitler's Nazi regime).
Since this movie is a Rodgers and Hamerstein musical, of course the songs are wonderful - and one of the ones that everyone can relate to is "My Favorite Things," a song that Maria sings to the children early on in the movie when they are frightened by a storm. It is the beginning of her special relationship with her stepchildren-to-be. I thought it would be fun to see how many of Maria's favorite things I could find on Etsy... So here, they are!
