On Friendship and Womanhood...

Friendship and womanhood - two wonderful facets of growing up female! I can't think of too many women (or men for that matter - but sorry guys, today is about that special bond between us girls!) I've met who don't have memories of a childhood 'best friend' and that's a pattern that usually follows up throughout life. Most of us are blessed with at least one fellow female friend that we can share good times with, depend on for support when life throws us a curveball, and just be ourselves around. For some of us, this best friend is a sister, a cousin, a roommate, a coworker, a neighbor, or someone we met through any of a number of activities or social venues

They are ~

• the wind beneath our wings - helping us to soar with eagles when we feel like we're grounded in a rafter of turkeys
• coffee breaks in our never ending work days - revitalizing us, invigorating us, giving us the energy to go on
• lighthouses on the rocky coasts of life - providing illumination to help us to find our way in the darkest and stormiest hours
• like the perfect bra - hard to find, there for support, never letting you down, and always close to your heart
• stars on a cloudy night - always there, even if we can't see them
• diamonds in the jewelry box of life - rare, precious, and nearly impossible to wear down, no matter how much pressure you put them under

They are the ones we turn to for -

• advice... because we know they will tell us the truth - even when it's not what we want to hear
• inspiration... because they believe in us - even when we may not believe in ourselves
• support... because a true friend will support you - even when they don't agree with you
• acceptance... because they love you for who you are - even when you don't love yourself

and so many other things that only a friendship can provide.

So, on this National Women's Friendship Day - do something with or for your best friend - the memories you make will last forever!

Here's one of my favorite quotes about friendship - I found it on a greeting card and it's been a favorite of mine ever since!

Let's become little old ladies together- we'll stay up late looking at old pictures, telling "remember when" stories, and laughing till our sides ache.
Let's become eccentric together- the kind of old ladies who take long walks, wear silly hats, and get away with acting outrageous in public places.

And if anybody should ask how long we've been friends,

we'll say, "Oh, forever - since before you were even born!"
Let's become little old ladies together-

because a friendship that's as special as ours can only grow better through the years.
