6 on Saturday - Edition 11

It's Saturday, and that means it's time for me to share some more new, undiscovered and underdiscovered shops on Etsy. Starting out in a new entrepreneurial venture, especially among the hundreds of thousands of other shops on the web, is tough under the best of circumstances...I am not so far removed from my memories of starting out that I can't empathize with these shops wishing someone would find them.  I DO find them - in all kinds of ways - and it's my pleasure to share these great shops with you, and hopefully give them a little leg-up on their entrepreneurial journey!

Let's head on over to the aisles of Etsy to take a look today's 6 on Saturday :)

One of my favorite memories about springtime as a child was Easter bonnets.  In school, we inevitably did those memorable paper plate Easter hats in art class, adorned with scraps of ribbons and bows and whatever artificial flowers (many of them were PLASTIC back then, y'know...) we could manage to beg away from our mothers, grandmothers, and neighbors. I also was able to select a new Spring hat for Easter Mass, and I think that's probably where my love of hats was born. It's a bunch of years later now (okay, a bunch of DECADES later) and I still love hats. They just add such an amazing touch of (insert one - sophistication, glam, fun) to any outfit for virtually any occasion. That's one reason I fell in love with ClaraBellesHats... owner Kari Dalton offers an awesome selection of styles. Cloches, pillboxes, wide brims, fascinators, and more, her work provides the perfect accessories for any occasion you could think of, from religious services to afternoon tea to a special dinner date.  Awesome shop!

Who doesn't love stoneware?  I know I do! It's attractive, durable, and I simply love its versatility. It works just as well in a country kitchen as it does in a minimalist kitchen and goes with so many decor forms in between. Colette and Chris from CanCCeramics offer a lovely selection of wheelthrown stoneware pottery with their own proprietary glazes.  They've put the fun back in FUNctional with their work... I personally love their berry bowls (and I almost wish periwinkle would work in my kitchen, because the color is AMAZING), but I'm sure when you stop by their shop you'll find that there's something perfect for your own decor scheme or perhaps even that bridal shower or wedding gift for an upcoming wedding!

Miniatures are fun, aren't they? I think most women can relate to dolls and doll houses and the whole "mini me" world that we're part of from the time we get our first baby doll. The more recent trend in incorporating food themed miniatures into the jewelry market has opened up a whole new arena for miniaturist artisans like Valentina from Minibonbons. Her items are whimsical, colorful, and you can select from her collectibles as well as her jewelry - so head on over to her shop and pick out a favorite treat to brighten your day.

Several years of living in the Australian outback inspired military wife/artist Acire from Acire to return to her beloved art of painting - and this time she is drawing on the art of the aboriginals for her inspiration. I love the way her art creates a fluid and/or vibrant energy and I also love the color palettes she chooses for her paintings and to embellish home decor items like picture frames and mirrors. What an energizing little shop and such fun creations!

Blase A Mathern, Jr is TheWoodMaestro and just one look at his work will help you understand why. With some inspiration and support from his wife, Blase is turning out some creative designs that show their attention to detail and an artistic ability to transform wood into functional art and jewelry with elegant, clean and concise lines.  If you like the minimalist or modern looks for furniture and accessories, TheWoodMaestro may just be your new favorite place to shop!

That leaves us with one last shop, and this spot goes to my vintage shop pick. Today's vintage shop is RedwoodVintage out of Arcata, CA. Vintage clothing, housewares, photographic art, and even a few collectibles that might appeal to some hobbyists out there will greet you when you stop by this shop, so what are you waiting for?  Head on over to see the rest of the goodies!

That's it for this "6 on Saturday" feature. As always, if you're just starting out or know of a shop that is and would enjoy a feature, introduce me to the shop and you may find it featured in one of my future 6 on Saturday features. Use the "Contact Me" option in the menu bar at the top of the page and send me the links!

Best of luck to these un- and underdiscovered shops - and happy shopping to you all!!

xo,

Hi Karen...Thank you so much for featuring our Etsy shop in your blog. Chris and I love the short article you wrote. We are coming out with some new items very soon including some porcelain candle holders and canisters. The candle holders are handcarved with portraits, swans, orchids and dragonflies. We are really excited about having our shop on Etsy. We have only been on Etsy since December with our pottery. What an awesome community of handmade items. I love shopping here too!
